This week’s public notices feature two applications for a new BT Street Hub and a road closure for the Lunar New Year celebrations.
As part of a ‘collaborative approach’ to improving local streets, BT is seeking planning permission to remove two BT payphones and install an ‘advanced, modern’ development on Market Street in Maidenhead town centre.
The proposed design of the Street Hub is slimmer and more compact than the existing payphones and intends to ‘future-proof’ the High Street.
BT Street Hubs will display advertisements on both sides of the unit and a separate application for advertisement consent has also been submitted to the council.
The applicant said: “By replacing old, dilapidated phone boxes with modern, street hubs, the streets of Maidenhead can be decluttered and opened up for pedestrians, giving a less untidy feel and a better sense of place.”
BT Street Hubs have previously acted as noticeboards for COVID updates and provide a free Wi-Fi service to ‘equalise’ internet access.
The applicant says the advertising opportunities can provide a local boost to the economy. All Street Hubs run off renewable energy and use efficient LED lighting which dims at night.
Road closures
The council has submitted notice of a road closure for the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations.
No vehicles will be allowed along St Ives Road and to enter Bridge Street from its junction with Forlease Road.
For the duration of the closure, the one way restriction will be reversed between its junctions with St Ives Road and Bridge Avenue to allow traffic to exit the existing one-way system.
The Lunar New Year Celebrations are proposed for Saturday, February 1 2025 and the road closure will come into force between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
No vehicles will be allowed along North Dean and West Dean, Maidenhead for its entire length next month.
The diversion route for vehicle traffic is via Ray Mill Road West and North Town Road.
The purpose of the road closure is to facilitate sink hole investigation works.
The road closure will come into effect from 9am on Monday, January 6 until 3pm on Wednesday, January 8.
Another road closure is scheduled for most of January.
Cars will not be permitted along part of Ray Park Avenue from its junction with A4 to Bridge Road the southern boundary of number 17 Ray Park Avenue.
The alternative route for vehicles affected by the Order is via A4 Bridge Road, A4094 Ray Mead Road, Ray Park Road and Ray Park Avenue.
This is to facilitate a gas mains replacement and the closure will begin at 12.01am on Monday, January 6 until 11.59pm on Friday, January 24.
A footpath closure is proposed for the new year.
No person will be allowed alone the footpath from Adkinson Alley to Cherwell Close, Maidenhead at the rear of numbers 39 to 63 Windrush Way.
The alternative route for pedestrians is via Cherwell Close, Kennet Road and Coln Close.
This is to facilitate fibre optic ducting works and will begin at 8am on Tuesday, January 7 and end at 6pm on Friday, January 10.
