FA Cup blitz by Magpies

FINAL SCORE

Godalming Town 0, Maidenhead United 5

The Magpies eased into the FA Cup first round proper with a thrashing of Godalming Town today.

After the first goal went in after 31 minutes it was one-way traffic with the visitors in total control.

They even spurned a few chances which could have added to the one-sided nature of the match.

Full match report to follow shortly.

GOAL!

88 minutes

Godalming Town 0, Maidenhead United 5

Substitute Manny Williams got his name on the scoresheet as he snuck in unmarked to nudge the ball home from close range ahead of the Godalming keeper.

The Magpies are finishing in style.

GOAL!

Godalming Town 0, Maidenhead United 4

Left-back Leon Soloman completed a memorable match for the Magpies with a remarkable hat-trick.

In a game of good goals, this one saw Soloman again duck into the box from the left flank and, after playing a one-two with Ashan Holgate, clipped the ball home for 4-0.

Apart from keeper Jordan Clement being forced into one save from a free-kick, the second half has belonged to the rampaging Magpies.

GOAL!

47 minutes

Godlaming Town 0, Maidenhead United 3

The Magpies have surely booked their place in the next round after Leon Soloman bagged his second goal of the match.

However, there was an element of fortune as he cross the ball into the penalty area from the left flank where it beat everyone to finish up in the back of the net.

Magpies striker Anthony Thomas is claiming a touch, but from where I am sitting he got nowhere near it.

The Magpies are now attacking at will.

HALF-TIME

Godalming Twon 0, Maidenhead United 2

Magpies have one foot in FA Cup first round proper.

Two goals in six minutes at the end of the first half have given Maidenhead United the perfect platform to overcome hosts Godalming Town in their FA Cup fourth qualifying round match today.

After an even, mundane opening the match burst into life on 31 minutes when the in-form Martel Powell drove the ball home from distance with a perfectly struck left foot effort.

The Magpies looked the better of the two teams after this, and confirmed their dominance when, on 39 minutes, left-back Leon Soloman charged down the flank and then cut inside before unleashing an unstoppable curling shot which drifted inside the uprigh leaving the Godalming keeper stranded.

Both teams had chances in the final seconds of the half, but the score remained 2-0 to the visitors who are now firm favourites to be in the hat for the draw for the first round proper on Sunday.
