Slough is set to host the town's first-ever sports carnival next week - and it's free entry.
Community organisation, The Slough Hub has partnered with Slough Town Football Club to host the inaugural Sports Olympica at Arbour Park Stadium.
The 'unique' sporting event on Sunday, July 28 will bring together 40 sports clubs and organisations and residents interested in health and fitness, for 'a day of excitement and community engagement'.
Founder and director of The Slough Hub, Vineet Vijh said: “Sports Olympica is more than just an event; it is a celebration of a healthy community and aspirational town.
“Our goal is to encourage more residents to take up sports as a regular habit and create a sense of unity and well-being in Slough. We are grateful for the incredible support from local businesses and organisations that have made this event possible.”
This new event at the Stoke Road venue aims to make the town’s residents healthier, happier and proud of where they live and forms part of Slough’s Re-imagine initiative.
The carnival is a first of its kind for the town and will feature a wide array of team competitions including football, badminton, table tennis, and relay races.
Attendees can also look forward to fencing, boxing, and taekwondo sports demonstrations.
Organisers said children’s games, activities, and dance lessons, including bhangra, Zumba, and aerobics, will add to the 'vibrant atmosphere'.
Finally, the Paris Olympics will be broadcast on a big screen for all to enjoy.
Slough Town Football Club community manager Ade Gomm added: "We are thrilled to partner with The Slough Hub for this landmark event.
"It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase our community's diverse sporting talent and inspire people of all ages to get active. We look forward to seeing everyone at Arbour Park Stadium.”
The carnival will run from 10am to 5pm, entrance is free, and tickets are available online.
Vineet said the event is participatory, inviting everyone to join the activities and experience the joy of sports.
He said it was made possible by the generous contributions from small businesses and large companies, including the data centre company, Equinix.
