Gas engineers conducting emergency work on a leak in Shoppenhangers Road have confirmed that work is expected to be completed today (Friday) and the road re-opened ‘by the close of play, if not before’.
The key route has been closed to traffic near Desborough College since the weekend for safety reasons due to problems with a gas pipe in the middle of the road.
Cadent engineers have carried out a number of repairs on the pipe and laid a new service pipe close on Wednesday.
Following completion of the work, the road surface will be reinstated and the road will then be reopened ‘as soon as possible’.
In a statement given on Wednesday, a Cadent spokesperson, said: “Our gas emergency engineers have been dealing with a gas escape along Shoppenhangers Road, Maidenhead since the weekend.
“We have had to close the road due to the location of the gas pipe in the middle of the road and the safety of road users and our engineers.
“As a result of the gas escape we have carried out a number of repairs on the pipe and today we have laid a new service pipe to the local school as well.
“Once this work has been completed, we will reinstate the road surface and then reopen the road, as soon as possible.”
